Advantages of Packaging Your Next System

May 01, 2019

One of the more popular questions asked by consulting engineers, contractors and facility owners is why use a packaged system and not just field-build one.  The advantages of packaged systems over field-built lies in three main project concerns:  value, time and risk.

Value

When considering the value of packaging, one must also look at engineering and design expenses. An Envirosep package includes partnering with our experienced engineering team, thus combining design and construction services in one solution.  By integrating the engineering details of the system or plant with its layout, construction and deployment, overall time and cost are reduced, some estimate up to 30%.

Also, packaging reduces the cost and risk of maintaining engineering intent through construction and final commissioning. It is the most efficient and direct way of properly integrating all the system equipment while meeting all the nuances of highly optimized efficiency across brands, types, functions, and controls.

Finally, there are a few other factors to consider that benefit a project when packaging. A modular plant frees expensive interior space and allows you to relocate your heating and cooling systems. Modules allow easier access in less space.  Factory built means no extra delays or costs due to inclement weather. As you can see, packaging is a surer path to obtaining maximum initial value and long-term results.

Time

Only packaging enables compressed construction schedules. While required site work is being completed, the packaged system may be built in a factory simultaneously.  Because the entire system or plant is delivered complete, site coordination is greatly simplified and faster. Site coordination is reduced to assuring the concrete, electrical and connective piping is only required just before an Envirosep system arrives.

Another valuable time savings is the benefit of direct single source manufacturing and responsibility. Single source responsibility in communications, documentation, knowledge transfer and support are always more efficient and less time consuming than coordinating details among a number of vendors, independent contractors and their subs. Delays caused by inter-company hiccups are eliminated, resulting in a higher probability of meeting project time lines.

Risk

Pre-engineered systems and plants reduce the unknown that occur between disciplines in field-built systems.  System piping and VSD controls for the pumps, chillers, boilers, tower fans and/or steam systems are always correct for fluid velocities, pressure drops and manufacturers specifications. This is always met with pre-engineered systems or plants and often less optimized in field built or plant room implementations.  This is especially important for high efficiency packages to assure energy efficiency targets are met and maintained.

Reducing engineering complexity, tasks and costs, packaging lowers your overall risk. Modular or pre-engineered central plants offer an attractive alternative to field-constructed mechanical rooms. It simplifies everything from concept to engineering layouts and final integration. Single point UL electrical and plumbing simplifies site work.  Pre-engineered modules are invariably more compact than most other approaches.  Modular plants enable phased facility expansions.

Finally, with an Envirosep integrated packaged system, you are assured of first-class quality as Envirosep maintains licenses and certifications that keep us current with the latest industry standards.   Our engineering team comprises of engineers from a variety of disciplines including: mechanical, electrical, structural, and chemical. Envirosep employs certified Professional Engineers (PE’s) in house along with certified Project Manager Professionals (PMP’s).  Our factory includes AWS Certified Welding Inspectors, ASME Certificate of Authorization, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listings along with National Board Certificate of Authorization.
